MATT Construction remodeled the Westfield Palm Desert shopping center, working on both the north and south ends of the existing 1983 structure. The mall, situated between both sites, remained open during construction.
The center underwent a facelift. MATT’s team also gutted the north box down to the bare walls and converted it into a major sporting goods store with a new entrance on the lower level. The south box features glass fiber reinforced concrete panels that look like stone to imbue the grand entrance with a unique flair. The south box has four restaurants, theaters, a new gym and an outdoor courtyard with water features and both landscape and hardscape designs.
While the north box is a fairly straightforward ecosystem, the south box required major construction, including opening up the space for valet parking. MATT worked as much as possible with the existing infrastructure and also performed some design-build services due to tight deadlines and design modifications.
