MATT Construction and Partners Honored With 3 Prestigious Awards
Wallpaper* and LABJ recognize MATT for three exciting new additions to Los Angeles
Wallpaper* Design Award, Best Building Site 2019: Academy Museum of Motion Pictures
The Academy Museum of Motions Pictures is earning attention from design aficionados well ahead of its opening. Wallpaper* magazine, which highlights “the world-rockingest people, places and very particular things” in design, architecture and fashion, designated the newest addition to LA’s museum-packed Wilshire Boulevard as the Best Building Site of 2019.
Renzo Piano’s inspired design seamlessly melds the historic and the futuristic. Sleek glass bridges connect the classic Streamline Moderne Saban Building (formerly the May Company department store), to a daring sphere made of concrete. The massive dome, which will host a range of films from nitrate to laser projections at the David Geffen Theater it houses, caught the special attention of the Wallpaper* judges. In their 15th year, the Wallpaper* Design Awards seek out “eye-popping, spirit-lifting, gold star-worthy little wonders and high achievers,” leading to an eclectic annual showcase of the “world’s most pulse-racing and life-enhancing products, people and phenomena.”
MATT Construction Garners Gold and Silver at the LABJ’s 2019 Commercial Real Estate Awards
Every year for 24 years, the Los Angeles Business Journal has honored brokers, broker teams, developers, architects and general contractors with an Awards dinner to showcase outstanding achievement in the commercial real estate market and the people who poured their passion into turning “visions into reality on projects that become our region’s landmarks.” The awards seek to recognize “the biggest, best and most notable commercial real estate projects” each year that are “single handedly changing the real estate industry in our own backyard.” This year, two of MATT’s projects garnered high honors. The UDR Vision on Wilshire received the Gold Award for Best Multi-Family Project, and Google Spruce Goose received the Silver Award for Best Office Project.
Architect Steinberg Hart’s design for the soaring, 18-story Vision on Wilshire blends the convenience of urban living with the freedom of a lofty sanctuary. Designed with efficiency in mind, its incomparable panoramas of the LA skyline and cellular-patterned façade bring dynamism and class to the Wilshire corridor. High-end amenities include a 60-foot rooftop pool, a podium-level clubhouse and extensive recreation and dining areas.
The ZGF-designed, landmark Spruce Goose in Playa Vista won the Silver Award for Best Office Project for its innovative revitalization and transformation of the existing space. Built inside Howard Hughes’ seven-story, 750-foot-long historic wooden hangar that formerly housed the Hercules IV airplane, the new space echoes the Google ethos of fluid, open workspaces. It includes meeting areas, offices, food stations and even napping pods.
