The USC Watt Hall project added 22,500 sf to the third floor of an existing building on a busy campus. Major demolition occurred during relatively quiet summer months, but the majority of the construction took place during semesters, and the building’s lower levels remained operational throughout the process. The addition included a double-floor atrium, design studios, research suites, program suites, presentation spaces and gardens. MATT’s team strengthened existing columns using fiber wrap and enclosed the rooftop mechanical spaces for the new third floor.
